The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi 11, has called for calm over the huge security presence around the Kofar Kudu Palace, which is inside the heart of Kano city, where he is a resident.
Our Correspondent reports that the emirship tusle between Sanusi 11, and his cousin, Aminu Ado Bayero, has continued to brew tension in Kano.
Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, son of the late Emir Abdullahi Ado Bayero, resides at the Nassarawa mini-palace, located close to Kano Government House.
He is also laying claims to the Kano emirship stool.
The issue has been a matter of litigation between the two brothers.
Our correspondent reports that security operatives blocked the Kofar Kudu Palace in Kano on Friday morning.
It was learnt that they allegedly prevented Emir Sanusi II from attending a royal event in the Bichi Local Government Area of Kano state.
A Palace source told our Correspondent that security operatives, “asked Emir Sanusi 11, to remain indoors, while the entrance of the Palace was also blocked by armoured personnel carrier vehicles. The Emir has been on the phone and is trying to find out what is going on.”
However, during Friday’s Jumaat prayers at the Palace, Emir Sanusi 11, urged his supporters to remain calm.
He said: “I warn you against falling into the traps of the enemies of Kano, who want to see Kano on fire.
“They always want to see killings, destruction of public properties and maiming of innocent lives.
“Islam admonishes you to be patient at any given time, whether in a difficult situation or at peace.
“If you are attacked, with patience, one becomes great but refusing to be patient creates uncertainty, difficulties and in the end, everyone loses out.
“That is why anybody who loves us and supports us, we ask him to at any given time violence no matter what.’
Kano remains calm and peaceful at the time of filling this report.
