A community leader, Aminu Salami, has distanced himself from the activities of illegal tax operators in Kogi State, urging law enforcement agencies not to spare anyone using his name to extort money from the public.

Salami, also a former chairman of Heavy Duty and Haulage Transport Association of Nigeria, HDHTAN, in Kogi State, who made the clarification in Lokoja on Friday also declared support for his successor, Chukwuma Trust Okechukwu, expressing confidence in his abilities to lead the association to greater heights.

He said there is no division in the state chapter of the pressure group, emphasized that the transition period is over, and as such, all previous letters issued and appointments made by him have been dissolved.

“I emphasize that there is only one legitimate Heavy Duty and Haulage Transportation Association of Nigeria (HDHTAN). Any other association or group claiming to represent heavy-duty truck drivers is fake and should cease operations immediately.

“Furthermore, I authorize the Police and other law enforcement agencies to prosecute anyone who uses my name to extort money or commit any illegal activity on the road.

“My objective is to stop all illegal taxation operations on federal roads, prevent my former employees from causing problems in the state, and inform the general public that I am no longer the Chairman of HDHTAN, Kogi State Chapter.

“I also plead with the Kogi State Inland Revenue Service (KGIRS) Chairman to support the new chairman, Mr. Chukwuma Trust Okechukwu, in combating economic sabotage in the state.:
