The governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule has dispatched a congratulatory letter to the newly-elected President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya. In a release signed by Ibrahim Addra, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor said, that Governor Sule praised the peaceful process that led to the emergence of Yahaya as the helmsman of journalists in the country.
Sule, who is also the Chairman of the Northcentral Governors Forum, notes that the attributes of the new president of NUJ make him eminently qualified to pilot the affairs of the penpushers. “The experience and cosmopolitan outlook of Comrade Yahaya and expressed confidence that the NUJ under his leadership will galvanize members to better serve in their roles of watchdogs and agenda setters,” confer on the new president, the capacity to take charge of the affairs of the organisation, the statement read in part.
Addra noted that the governor said that journalists have even profound roles to play, as the nation attempts to find solutions to the various challenges confronting it. He therefore called for cohesion, peace and unity to enable the new executive council of the Union to deliver on its mandate efficiently.
The release also quoted the governor as saying “Journalists are partners in development that have continued to make significant contributions to public discourse and serving as an important feedback mechanism between governments and citizens and so deserve our collective accolades and support,” and thus wishing the new team success in office.
