Hope of a competition in petroleum refining and distribution has been rekindled with Nigeria’s owned Port Harcourt Refinery commencing the production of petroleum products.

Last night, the engineers and production crew fired the boilers and the machines roared into life. In other words, the juggernaut has been awakened!

This was disclosed on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Olufemi Soneye.

According to him, the refinery kicked off with 60 percent capacity.

He also noted that Port Harcourt refinery, which has a combined 250,000 barrels per day capacity, will start by processing 60,000 barrels per day of crude.

The new development comes after several failed commencement deadlines.
