Edo State Commissioner for Heath, Dr Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, has raised the alarm over some defects discovered at the remodelled Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin City.

The Hospital project was commissioned by Dame Patience Jonathan, wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, during the last week of former Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was also present at the commissioning of the Hospital, named after his late wife.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the facility, Oshiomhole who was accompanied by a team of medical consultants and the contractor of the Hospital, noted that teamwork helped them detect the errors.

He, however, disclosed that the team had taken remedial measures against the defects, brainstormed and agreed on how best to correct the error.

He said: “I went round the Stella Obasanjo Hospital to inspect the facility. I was accompanied on the visit by consultants and the contractor handling the project to look at what they had done so far.

“We discovered errors made while constructing the Hospital. We brainstormed on what to do to ensure we correct the errors detected. We all agreed that the issues should be resolved as I love working with the team.

“Teamwork has helped us discover the error, and that is why you can see behind me gynaecologists and surgeons and some medical consultants who are here to support me.”

Dr Oshiomhole said the contractor and the consultants have agreed to make the necessary adjustments before the commencement of operations in the hospital.
