Kidnappers demand ₦200m for the release of Rev. Father Oyode

Abductors of Rev. Fr. Thomas Oyode, has reportedly made contact with the Catholic Diocese of Auchi and demanded the sum of ₦200 million for his release from captivity.

The Director of Communications of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Rev. Fr. Peter Egielewa, confirmed the ransom demand in text message journalists in Benin, simply saying “It is true”.

However, a source who asked not to be named, said:

“The kidnappers on Monday evening contacted the Auch Catholic Diocese and asked them to pay ₦200 million if they want them to release the kidnapped priest.

“As at yesterday, negotiation was yet to commence with the Kidnappers and I don’t know whether the Catholic family will discussed ransom negotiation.”

Recall that Rev. Fr. Oyode was kidnapped by gunmen on Sunday at about 7p at Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary School, Ivanokpodi, in Agenegbode, Etsako East local government area of Edo state.

The gunmen reportedly kidnapped two students after sporadic shootings.

Rev fr. Oyode however pleaded with the kidnappers to free the students and instead kidnap him who is the Rector and custodian of the students.

The gunmen were said to have heeded the Rev. father’s plea, released the two students and took him into custody
