The Anambra State Police Command has stayed categorically that the shooting incident at Ifite Awka in which five persons were killed and three others seriously injured, was not targeted at any ethnic or religious group.
The sad incident occurred on Thursday, 24 October.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command’s spokesman disclosed this in a statement Friday evening.
He said: “To set the records straight, preliminary information reveals that the armed men started shooting sporadically in an attempt to escape when police were alerted of their evil plan in the area.
“The Command not wanting to join issues with anyone or group remains committed to the ongoing operational patrols, improved security dominance and surveillance targeted to enhance safety and nip to the bud of such or any related incident in the State.”
Ikenga who commiserated with families and friends of the victims, assured that the Command will not rest until the perpetrators of the heinous crime are brought to book.
