The Memories of Sapele Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich cultural and sporting legacy of Sapele has expressed its deep sadness about the passing of Peter Fregene, a renowned goalkeeper who proudly represented Nigeria’s national football team during the 1960s and 1970s.
As contained in a statement signed by Hon Barr Raymos Guanah, Secretary, “We are devastated by the loss of this iconic sports hero,” said Prof Hope Eghagha,
President of The Memories of Sapele Foundation. Peter Fregene’s exceptional skills in goal inspired a generation of football enthusiasts, and his legacy will continue to be celebrated.”
The group went further that as a proud son of Sapele, Peter Fregene’s achievements on the national stage brought joy and pride to the community. His contributions to Nigerian sports will never be forgotten.
