Midnight operation: Gunmen shoot middle-aged man dead in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has come firmed the killing  of a middle-aged man Identified as Abdulrafiu Afegbua, by yet-to-be identified gunmen.

It could however not be confirmed if the killing has anything to do with cult-related activities.

The incident occurred at Awoyemi community,  Okpella, in Etsako East local government area of the state.

Afegbua who was said to be with his wife at home in the night, was said to have received a called inviting him to a place.

It was gathered that the unsuspecting victim hurriedly dashed out of the house to meet his caller, although his wife was said to have made efforts to stop him from leaving home at that hour.

Upon reaching the location, the assailant reportedly shot the deceased on his chest and neck, which led to his death.

It was gathered that after waiting for a long time without hearing from her husband, the agitated wife began made repeated calls to his mobile phone but was not answered.

A search party launched in the morning was said to have discovered the dead body of the victim inside the bush, close to where his motorbike was abandoned on a bush path.

The State Police Command spokesperson, SP Moses Yamu, who confirmed the incident, said  investigation was ongoing.
