Jigawa state Governor, Malam Umar Namadi has vowed to sustain institutional reforms in line with his 12-point agenda to ensure good governance built on transparency and accountability.
A Statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, indicated that Governor Namadi made the vow in Abuja, on Tuesday, during the closeout event of the FCDO-funded Partnership to Engage Reform and Learn (PERL) programme.
Governor Namadi emphasized the state’s commitment towards sustaining institutional reforms for improved governance and service delivery, pledging to uphold governance reforms in line with his 12-point development agenda aimed at achieving sustainable development in the state.
He emphasized Jigawa’s accomplishments, such as its top ranking in budget transparency and accountability, and its successful participation in the World Bank’s State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability, and Sustainability (SFTAS) initiative.
Governor Namadi acknowledged PERL’s role in these successes, especially in fostering positive governance and supporting various development initiatives.
He attributed the progress to the dedication of the state’s civil servants and highlighted the importance of a performance bond signed with key stakeholders for continued success.
He also praised the partnership with PERL for enhancing governance and service delivery without relying on external consultants, citing political will as a driving force.
The PERL program has contributed significantly to the state’s improvements in governance, focusing on transparency, accountability, and effective public service delivery.
The event saw participation from various state governments, civil society organizations, and media outlets.
Top state government officials, including the Commissioners for Planning and Budget, Power and Renewable Energy, and Environment and Climate Change, accompanied Governor Namadi.
