Wife of Edo State Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, has dismissed allegations that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, plans to influence next Saturday’s governorship election in the favor of the APC with “federal might”.

The Edo First Lady stated this while responding to questions during an interview on Crack Team TV, hosted by Albert Obaze from Leeds, UK.

Mrs. Obaseki who described the claims as baseless, and a ploy to tactfully solicit federal backing for dubious schemes, denounced the opposition’s claims of federal might as an attempt to sow discord through lies and misrepresentation.

She reaffirmed the positive relationship between President Tinubu and her husband, Governor Godwin Obaseki, even as she dismissed rumours of any vendetta or federal meddling.

“President Tinubu is smarter and wiser. He is not at their level at all,” she said.

Compared with the 2020 gubernatorial election in which Governor Obaseki emerged victorious, Mrs. Obaseki praised former President Muhammadu Buhari for his democratic stance and for using federal power only to safeguard voters, not to tamper with election results.

She questioned the plausibility of President Tinubu undermining democratic processes, given his history as a reformer during his tenure as governor of Lagos State.

Mrs Obaseki argued that Tinubu, who is committed to good governance and continuity, would not disrupt the progress made in Edo under her husband’s administration—especially when the state has received international recognition for its development.

“Now the father of the nation, President Tinubu would not lend his support to efforts aimed at destabilising a well-governed state.

“If every state governor begins to tow these paths set out in Edo and Lagos, one day we will all wake up to a good Nigeria,” she stated.
