Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister (Prime Minister), Dr David Moinina Sengeh, has set a precedent by boarding the local bus in Freetown, popularly called “ Waka Fine”, together with his wife, exhibiting a pro-people posture, new in African settings.
Sengeh, 38, was first appointed by President Bio as Education Minister before he was appointed as Chief Minister in 2023.
He lived and was educated at Harvard in the US. Sengeh is a product of the new tech generation, infused with innovative skills. He was one time the Chief Innovation Officer, stationed at State House.
Riding the local bus in Freetown should be emulated by other ministers, ambassadors and top government dignitaries.
In Europe, Asia and the US, it is a common phenomenon. But not in Africa!
There is the speculation Dr Sengeh is wants to contest for the Presidency on the platform of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). If he wins, he will eventually contest the upcoming 2028 Presidential Elections, succeeding incumbent President Julius Maada Bio
