President Julius Maada Bio has departed for China for the Africa-China FOCAC summit. He is travelling on the weight and capacity as AU Chair of the Committee of 10, C-10 and Chair of the UN Security Council, unprecedented in the country’s history since independence from Britain in 1961.

At the FOCAC summit, he will embark on bilateral and multilateral engagements with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping and multilateral stakeholders on the Road and Belt initiatives.

President Bio is accompanied by his wife, Fatima Bio and other top government officials.

FOCAC is meant to open doors for Chinese investments in Africa, particularly on infrastructures, like roads, airports, seaports, railways and other critical necessities, on concessional terms.

The FOCAC summit is being attended by virtually all African Presidents, including ECOWAS Chair, Bola Tinubu, Liberia’s President, Joseph Boakai, South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa and others
