Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially inaugurated a 25-member State Taskforce on Immunization to strengthen the immunization programmes across the state.

This was contained in a statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Governor Yusuf highlighted that the Taskforce members were carefully selected for their proven track records and technical expertise, with the aim of positively impacting immunization efforts and primary healthcare services in Kano State.

The Taskforce’s responsibilities include providing leadership and support for the implementation of all immunization activities, as well as supporting other primary healthcare services.

They are also tasked with reviewing and adopting the state’s annual immunization work plan, ensuring it aligns with the State Health Annual Operation Plan (AOP).

Other key duties include conducting quarterly reviews of the immunization work plan, advocating for timely and adequate resource allocation, ensuring the judicious use of funds, and monitoring progress in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health plus Nutrition (RMNCAAH+N) indices.

The Taskforce will also review progress in routine immunization delivery to ensure all eligible children are reached and will provide quarterly updates to the State Executive Council.

Governor Yusuf expressed the Kano State Government’s expectation that the Taskforce will provide the necessary oversight, political, and technical support to ensure the complete eradication of vaccine-preventable diseases in the state.

According to the statement, the Taskforce is to be chaired by the State Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo who also doubles as the Commissioner for Local Government and Cheiftancy Affairs with the Commissioner of Health Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf as co-chair.

Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered for the speedy completion of the abandoned phase II of renovation project that contain additional wards and staff offices at Nuhu Bamalli Maternity Hospital in Kano metropolitan.

A statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, indicated tbat  the Governor gave the directive when he paid an unscheduled visit to the hospital.

He also directed the State Ministry of Health to ensure furnishing of the facility with immediate effect for resumption of health care services delivery without delay.

The areas inspected by the Governor include; laboratories, theatres, wards, mosque among others where he expressed satisfaction with the level of the work done so far.

” I am at facility to see for myself the level of rehabilitating the facility that is providing ante and post natal care to many pregnant women in the state and strategically located in Kano city.

” Directive has been given to the contractor handling the phase II renovation project hosting wards and staff offices to immediately return to site to complete the remaining aspects of the work.”  Governor Yusuf said.

The Staement added that, “when the renovation is completed and the hospital resumes normal operations, it will augment the services of neighbouring health facilities especially in metropolitan Kano.”

Kano state Governor,  Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf has sponsored the training and re-training of over 5000 traditional medicine practioners in the state for improved and effectve healthcare delivery.

Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa said the traiming and regulation of traditional medicine practitioners in the state was part of the Governor’s healthcare reforms initiatives.

According to Bature,  GovernorYusuf received commendation from the Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association of Nigeria for his proactive efforts in engaging and educating over 5,000 of its members to support the state’s healthcare initiatives.

The state government has screened and selected over 5, 000 vendors who are certified to practice as traditional medicine vendors  in Kano from 28 Local Government Areas.

The National Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Maikudi highlighted the strong relationship between the association and the state, attributing it to Governor Yusuf’s support and dedication.

He expressed his appreciation during the inauguration of the Kano State Taskforce Committee on Immunization, held at the Kano State Government House.

He praised the Governor for revitalizing the healthcare sector and for paying special attention to the traditional medicine community.

He expressed gratitude for the resources provided by the government, which have enabled traditional medicine practitioners to work more effectively.

Alhaji Maikudi also urged the Governor to establish a Traditional Medicine Board to further integrate traditional practices into the state’s healthcare system.

In his remarks, Governor Yusuf commended the contributions of traditional medicine practitioners to the state’s health sector.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare service delivery and stressed the importance of collaboration between traditional and modern medical practices.

The Governor announced plans to support traditional medicine vendors through training programmes and partnerships with healthcare institutions, and the creation of a regulatory board.

According to him, these initiatives aim to modernize traditional practices, enhance their safety and effectiveness, and integrate them more closely with the state’s healthcare system.

The event marks a significant step forward in Kano State’s ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery by harnessing the strengths of both traditional and modern medicine.
