The Rivers State Government has banned the use of commercial vehicles for transportation businesses not painted in state colours from August 1st this year.
The State Ministry of Transport announced the ban in a government press statement signed by Prince (Hon) Collins N Onunwo, the Commissioner for Transport.
According to Commissioner Onunwo,”Rivers State wishes to inform all commercial drivers operating in Rivers State, particularly those with taxis, Buses, and tricycle(Keke), that from August 1st, 2024, any commercial vehicle not painted with the official colour will not be allowed to operate.
“For uniformity and to ensure subsidized rates, the Rivers State Ministry of Transport and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) have reached an agreement with some designated automobile painting workshops, interested persons can contact the following persons;Marshal O Otah – 08039109522,Engr. Andrew – 08036705909, Christopher – 08037092167, Frank Nnadi – 08033136764, Hon. George Georgewill – 08067930002 and Hon. Bobby Ochonma – 08035469398.
He warned commercial vehicles owners ensure that vehicle is painted before the deadline to avoid penalties.
However, our Correspondent reports that there has been concerns by Commuters and security agencies over the spate of crimes like robberies and kidnappings committed with the use unpainted vehicles.
