Dr Soul, the Nigeria-born but United States of America-based artiste is currently making waves with his music. Chukwuka John Okafor a native of Imo State currently resident in the US, who operates under the Dr Soul moniker is musically gifted and here is why.

Despite music being his passion, he is also a medical graduate. Growing up, Dr Soul who began his musical journey singing on the streets of Nigeria at the age of 14, sometimes sneaked out of the house to the studio to record music because his dad was not in support of his musical aspirations, had one of the rarest falsettos. His new single Love in the 90’s is a prove that he can combine Soul and African popular music. You have to be good to make it to the American Idol, but Dr Soul made it to the show and represented Nigeria in season 4. He came top 40 out of the 15,000 auditions. Isn’t that impressive?

A graduate of Ogba Primary School between 1999 to 2005. He attended his high school at Command Day secondary school and graduated in 2011 at the age of 15 and gained admission to study medicine outside Nigeria, Avalon University School of Medicine in Curacao Island and transferred to a Caribbean medical school which was cheaper at the time. He graduated from medical school in 2020 and moved to the US where he got an opportunity to embark on his American Idol journey.

His debut single “Lucid Dreams” was released in 2019 while he was in medical school and was redistributed in 2021. His name Dr Soul is a true definition of who he is, a combination of his educational qualification and his type of music. Drawing inspirations from Tiwa Savage, Sam Smith, The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, and Giveon. In performances, he has opened for several artists including P-Square, 9ice, Omah Lay, and Bella Shmurda, and has taken the stage in popular stages like American Idol, AY Live and Chicago Fashion Week. His music is mainly Soul and a combination of elements of African Popular Music. I really can’t wait for his debut studio album.

A frequent performer in his country of residence, the United States, his music is being played in the US and his home country Nigeria. With growing singles in his arsenal, his consistency is one to study. He has consistently released songs since his American Idol journey. He recently delved into fashion and modelling while still following his passion in hopes of working with big fashion companies, brands, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Sam Smith, Wizkid, Giveon, The Weeknd, Teni, Jhene Aiko, Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Bruno Mars, his dream collaborations
