Ibrahim Mantu: dies

Ibrahim Mantu, former deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, is dead.

According to reports Mantu, represented  Plateau Central Senator  died in the early hours of Tuesday.

He was born on 16, February, 1947.

The late former deputy Senate President who will be buried at 2pm today hailed from Gindiri, in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State

The influential politician began his political career with the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN).

He was also a very active member of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) and United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP).

He joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999 and was elected to represent Plateau Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

He was appointed the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information before emerging as the Deputy Senate President in 2001.
