Point of correction, I have since found out from the Newsrand that the actual cost of the Fashola bridge is actually in Nigerian Naira and not United States Dollars. implying that N3509 Billion is equivalent to about USD 8.7 million. Congratulations to Nigeria and Cameroon, infrastructure development is the way to go for sustainable development in Subsahara Africa.
For the type of bridge constructed between Nigeria and Cameroon, I think it is too expensive if indeed the currency expended ($35.9 billion) is the US dollar. A similar cross border bridge was commissioned between Zambia and Botswana across the Zambezi, which a much wider and deeper river than the Ekot-Mfum, Etung LGA of Cross River. For Kazungula cross border bridge about USD 259.3 million dollars were spent to build a road and rail bridge. $ 35.9 billion is a lot of Money that can build power stations, transmission lines and other sustainable developmental infrastructure in those parts West Africa. see links below to the Kazungula road and rail bridge.
