You can’t force Buhari to sack service chiefs, Presidency tells Senate

Service chiefs salute Buhari

The Presidency told the upper chamber of the National Assembly, the Senate on Tuesday that it is the prerogative of President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint or sack the service chiefs.

The presidency made the assertion in response to the resolution of the Senate calling on the Service Chiefs to resign or be sacked due to the multi-pronged security challenges in the country earlier in the day in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President Buhari on media and publicity, Femi Adesina.

The Presidency however, acknowledged the resolution of the Senate, assuring that President Buhari will do what is in the best interest of the country at all times.

Adesina said: “The Presidency notes the resolution, and reiterates that appointment or sack of Service Chiefs is a Presidential prerogative, and President Muhammadu Buhari, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, will do what is in the best interest of the country at all times.’
