Guber poll: Gov. Okowa clears 13 out of 14 LGAs so far declared

Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the Governorship election in  13 out of the 14 local government areas so far declared by the Independent National electoral Commission (INEC).

The State Returning Officer, Prof. Seth Jaja, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa, announced the results at the INEC office in Asaba on Sunday.

Jaja declared Chief Great Ogboru of All Progressive Congress (APC) winner in one of the local government areas.

Okowa won in Ukwuani Local Government Area (LGA), where he polled 18,328 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Ogboru who scored 7,264 votes.

In Patani, Okowa recorded 19,683 votes as against Ogboru’s 3, 288 votes just as he polled 33,371 votes in Ika South as against Ogboru’s 3,877 votes.

Okowa also won in Ika North East with 67,417 votes while the APC candidate polled 2303 votes.

In Okpe LGA, Okowa polled 20,415 votes to defeat his closest APC opponent who got 9424 votes as the governor also defeated Ogboru in Aniocha North with 17,054 votes while he (Ogboru) got 4653 votes.

The PDP candidate secured 62,044 votes in Ethiope West, while Ogboru scored a total of 6211 votes and in Aniocha South, Okowa defeated his closest with 20,947 votes as against his 3138 votes.

Others LGAs won by Okowa are Isoko South where he recorded 43730 votes, while Ogboru had 14,259 votes and Oshimili North where he had 37,744 votes, as Ogboru secured 2906 votes.

In Isoko North, Okowa defeated Ogboru with a total of 29,648 votes as against his 9817 votes, while in Sapele, the governor polled 18,572 votes and Ogboru garnered 10457 votes.

Okowa also defeated the APC candidate in Ndokwa East with 30,670 votes as against 4306 votes recorded by him.

Jaja declared Ogboru winner in Ethiope East LGA, where he polled 21,141 votes as the PDP candidate got 11,489.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ongoing collation of results is supervised by the Delta Resident Election Commissioner, Dr Cyril Omorogbe.
