Ex-FERMA MD wins Katsina Central Senatorial seat


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mr Abdullahi Kabir Barkiya of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as winner of Katsina Central Senatorial district election.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Rasheed Adedayo Hamzat of the Federal University, Dutsinma, Katsina State, who announced the result on Sunday in Katsina said Barkiya scored 340,800 votes to defeat Hamisu Gambo of PDP, who got 124,372 votes.

Barkiya was the former Managing Director of Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).

Barkiya was declared the winner  having scored the highest number of votes cast during the election and having  satisfied the requirements of the law.

The Senatorial district has 1,090,513 registered voters.

However, the total votes cast were 485,254, with  14,667 votes rejected.
