4 security guards docked for allegedly stealing 487,000 cartons of milk

Police:

The police on Wednesday arraigned four security guards in a Wuse Zone II Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing 487,000 cartons of milk, valued at N4.6 million.

The police charged Rabiu Sadiq, Abubakar Umar, Saidu Abubakar, and Hashimu Yakubu, with three counts of conspiracy, theft and negligence of conduct.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Adeyemi Oyeyemi, had told the court that the case was reported on Feb. 13 at FCT Command in Abuja by the complainant, Eze Nnamdi of Block B, Shop 27, Wuse Market, Abuja.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant claimed to have opened his shop at Sahad Plaza, Wuse Market, Abuja, on the fateful day and discovered that the shop had been burgled and 487,000 cartons of milk valued N4.6 million was stolen.

Oyeyemi said that the defendants were on duty as security guards at the warehouse on the fateful and could not give satisfactory explanation of now the items got missing.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of section 97, 287 and 196 of the Penal Code.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Malam Musa Jibbo, admitted the accused persons to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety each in like sum who must live within court’s jurisdiction.

Jibbo adjourned the case until March 28 for hearing.
