A 35-year-old trader, Samuel Ibironke, who allegedly defrauded his friend of N200, 000 on the pretext of assisting him to secure a job, was on Friday arraigned in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Ibironke, of Alkali Road in Kaduna, is standing trial on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and cheating.

The prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that one Gabriel Timothy of same address with the defendant reported the matter at the Gabasawa Police Station on Jan. 8.

“Sometimes in November, 2018, the defendant demanded N200, 000 from the complainant, on the pretext that he would secure jobs for the complainant’s two brothers.

“The complainant gave the defendant the money, but the defendant neither secured the jobs nor refunded the money.

“On Dec. 16, 2018, the defendant was arrested and he wrote an undertaking to refund the money but he failed to do so,” the prosecutor said.

He noted that the offences contravened Sections 97, 312 and 322 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Laws, 2017.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety in like sum.

He said that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court, and must present one passport photograph or a National Identity Card.

Emmanuel adjourned the case until Feb. 12, for further hearing.
