The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq on Sunday promised to transform the state for greatness if elected.
AbdulRasaq made the promise in Lagos during a meeting with indigenes of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that party bigwigs as well as APC candidates for legislative seats in Kwara state also attended the meeting.
Abdulrasaq, who addressed the indigenes in the local Yoruba language, said he was contesting for the number one seat in the state to rescue it from backwardness and an awkward political hegemony.
According to him, he is in the race to rescue the state from years of under development brought about by people with no focus.
He said that he wanted to take Kwara to the desired level and take it from the grip of people who have held it by the jugular.
The candidate said that the PDP made absolutely nothing to work in the state and there was the need to open a new chapter for Kwara State and people.
He said basic things such as roads, health facilities , schools,and water were almost non-existent in the state.
The APC candidate added that there were no jobs for the people of the state owing to lack of opportunities.
He said the spate of robberies and other security issues attested to the precarious security situation in the state.
AbdulRasaq pointed out that all of these and more had made the state lag behind among states created at the same time.
He said it was time to change the narrative and give jobs to the people, promising to invest massively in agriculture and diversify revenue sources to grow the state’s IGR.
“We are going to invest in infrastructure; we will build roads, hospitals, schools and other things for our people.
He, however, said all those possibilities could be achieved if the people reject the “failed PDP”and vote for him in 2019.
AbdulRasaq said though he understood that some Kwara indigenes in Lagos might have registered in the former nation’s capital, they could influence those at home to vote APC for progress.
He said he would be counting on Kwara people to chase out PDP government in March.
The candidate said President Muhammadu Buhari had done so many projects in the state, urging the people to vote massively for him in February.
Also speaking, a chieftain of the APC in the state, Mr Dele Belgore said APC was the best choice in 2019.
Belgore who defected to APC recently, said he left the PDP because the party represented cluelessness.
He urged the people all to vote APC, AbdulRazak as governor and President Buhari for a second term.
Belgore said the PDP represents failure and should be rejected.
He urged all indigenes of the state to participate actively during the election to elect APC.
Mr Raheem Adedoyin, the Kwara State Chairman of National Committee for Buhari Support Groups said the state had benefited massively under Buhari.
He said the APC government had executed projects like Ilorin-Jebba Road and many others to make things easy for the people.
Adedoyin said it was time to say Thank you and vote Buhari again, and chase out PDP in the state.
Mr Kehinde Hassan, a party chieftain from Kwara South said the ban on rallies by the state government was to prevent the emergence of AbdulRasaq.
He, however, said the people of the area had resolved to vote out the PDP and install the APC candidate in March.
NAN reports that the meeting attracted prominent and ordinary indigenes of Kwara who trooped to the Teslim Balogun Stadium venue in their hundreds. (NAN)
