A former Nigerian president, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, is dead.
Shagari died Friday evening at the National Hospital Abuja after a brief illness, his grandson, Bello Shagari, announced via his Twitter handle.
“I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after brief illness at the National hospital, Abuja,” Bello said on twitter
The Sokoto born former president was overthrown in a military coup in December 1983.
