Mr Jacob Ajegana-Kudu, a former House of Assembly aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, has left the party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ajegana-Kudu lost the APC’s ticket to represent Nassarawa Eggon East at the state House of Assembly during the party’s primary election.
The former Special Assistant to Gov. Tanko Al-Makura made his position known at a news conference in Nassarawa Eggon on Wednesday.
According to him, he made the decision to join the ADC due to the injustice and lack of internal democracy in the APC.
“I joined the ADC to answer my people’s call and in order to realise my dream of becoming a member of the House of Assembly representing Nassarawa Eggon East come 2019,’’ he said.
The politician said that the reconciliation committee set up by APC in the state after listening to his grievances failed to address them.
“On Wednesday, April 18, 2018, Gov. Tanko Al-Makura, called a meeting of all critical stakeholders of APC which was held at the Government House, Lafia.
“A decision was reached that all excos of the party at the ward, local government and state levels should be retained except for those who died, defected to other parties or got appointment/employment.
“In the same month, all APC stakeholders in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area (LGA) met and endorsed the decision reached at the Government House meeting.
“On July 31, 2018, some concerned APC stakeholders in Nassarawa Eggon East wrote a letter of complaint to the state leadership of APC against the action of some persons who were bent on going against the decision of the governor,” he said.
He also alleged that the Oct. 6, APC primary election in the state was marred by irregularities as the whole process was compromised by the Returning Officer.
“I rejected the primary election result through a news conference on Oct. 10, after carefully assessing the outcome on the grounds that the whole process was compromised by the APC Returning Officer who refused to show/give us the delegates list, claiming it was directive from above,’’ he said.
He thanked the leadership and members of ADC at both federal, state and local levels for the opportunity and promised not to disappoint the party and the people of his constituency if elected in 2019.
