The South Korean International Cooperation Alumni Association in Nigeria (SKICAN) has hailed the South Korean Government for putting in efforts to extend humanitarian services to Nigerians.
The President of the association, Mr Fidelis Ugbo, gave the commendation at the 2018 annual meeting organized by the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in collaboration with SKICAN on Thursday in Abuja.
Ugbo said that the Korean government through its embassy in Nigeria has laid a good foundation for the growth and sustainability of the association.
He called on members of the association to continue to put more efforts in the voluntary humanitarian services by participating and vying for any office of interest in the association.
“From sharing of knowledge acquired, we have been able to extend our activities to social and humanitarian services to the society.
“We have grown from strength to strength over the years. We are managing a membership of almost 2000 and still growing.
“We encourage all of you to show interest in this humanitarian service and struggle to get to any office of your choice in the association.
In her remarks, the Korean Country Director for Nigeria, Sook Hyun, said that the Korean government recognised Nigeria as one of its most important partners in the region.
Sook noted that the Korean government has expanded exchange in various fields of trade and commerce, investments, transfer of technology, education and technical training for better cooperation between the two countries.
She said that the government has been providing Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Nigeria in the form of project aid focusing on education and human resource development since 1991.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the association’s aim is to create a forum for all in the public sector who have benefited from capacity building programmes sponsored by the Republic of Korea.
The annual event is also to interact and share ideas from the knowledge that has been acquired.
