The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has threatened to sue Senate President Bukola Saraki over allegations that he was bribed.
Oshiomhole said this in reaction to claims by Mr Saraki on Wednesday in Ilorin that the national chairman of APC should resign as he lacks the moral ground to continue to lead the party over allegations that he collected bribes from some aspirants during the recent primaries of the party.
Saraki who was reacting to call by Oshiomhole that he should resign his position as the Senate president said based on recent allegations against him, the APC national chairman had no right to remain the chairman of the ruling party, let alone remain in politics.
“Oshiomhole has no locus standi to talk about morality in today’s Nigeria’s politics. That must be a joke coming from Oshiomhole talking about moral ground,” he said.
“I don’t think he has any moral ground, even to continue to be in politics not to talk about being a chairman of a party.
“I remember in those days even John Oyegun, they never accused him of something like this. I have left that party. I’m sure the president, based on integrity, knows the right thing to do. So, on moral ground, he cannot speak on moral ground.”
But in a statement by his chief press secretary, Simon Ebegbulem, on Thursday morning, Oshiomhole described attack on him by Saraki as “unwarranted, pathetic and irresponsible.”
“It is equally sad, but not unexpected, that Saraki, who is politically drowning, would make such libelous comments against the national chairman of the APC. And I challenge Saraki to mention one name of an aspirant that gave money to the national chairman or we file a legal action against him.
“Whereas, the basis on which he made those comments was tenuous and unjustifiable, it is on record that Saraki has been in the eye of investigations by the EFCC and the ICPC for sundry cases of corruption,” the statement read.
“We challenge him to mention one person who has claimed that he gave money to Oshiomhole to influence him and the decision of the party’s national working committee (NWC) in the just-concluded primary elections.”
