Court

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered that Pius Edu, a bursar at Christ Redeemer School Oworo be remanded in prison custody, pending legal advice from  the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).

Edu, 21, who resides at No. 55 Oworo Rd., Oworonshoki in Lagos, is being charged for sexual assault.

Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsemi, ordered that the case file be sent to the DPP for the advice.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp. Raphael Donny told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 15 about 3.30 p. m. at No. 50 Oworo Rd., Oworonshoki, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused tied the six-year-old girl’s mouth with handkerchief and sexually assaulted her.

The offence, he said,  contravened Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section stipulates life imprisonment for offenders.

The Magistrate adjourned the case until Dec. 3.
