Medical University: FMC Abeokuta pays N190m to land owners

The Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta has compensated about 660 families who are the original owners of over of 170 acres of land acquired by the Ogun State government and given to the hospital.

The families, spread over 20 villages whose land were acquired by the the state to the hospital for the establishment for the proposed Medical University and extension of the Medical center received total compensations of N190 million.

The Medical Director, Prof. Adewale Musa Olomu, at a brief ceremony held to pay the compansation at Bureau of Land Secretariat, Oke-ilewo, Abeokuta said a sum of N190 million would be given to the 660 families across the villages 20 where the 170 acres of land were acquired.

Olomu also explained that the compensation was based on the worth of the crops, lands and the buildings on the acquired land.

“We are paying every entitlement to people of villages where the Governor of the State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has given to us for the establishment of our Medical University and extention of the Medical Center.

“We are paying N190 million to about 660 families and the compensation was given in two phases, that is crops & economic trees and unexhausted improvement”, he said.

Olomu also commended Gov Amosun for supporting the medical centre with the 178 acres of land which, he noted, was worth N5.2 billion naira for free in addition to facilitating electricity supply and extension of pipeborne water to the center.

The Medical Director, however, promised that the medical University would create employment opportunities for the families of existing and unborn children of the original land owners when operations begin on the land.

He said, “What we are doing today would bring development to these communities and we promise to always consider the people whose land were acquired in terms of our policy and activities.

“When we begin operation here, I promise that the families of the communities would benefit whether am still the director or not, you can be rest assure that opportunities and employment would be created for you,your born and unborn children because am going to leave a legacy of such to who ever will succeed me.”

Also speaking at the event, the immediate past Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ade Abolunrin, urged the villagers to see the money as nothing, but a way to support the government to enhance development to the communities.

He also enjoined them to shun all side talks that they wIll not be compensated or that they will regret their actions for giving their lands out to FMC

Abodlurin said instead they should see it as a step to development and upliftment because it is something their children and unborn children would benefit from.

He said, “If we can be united with FMC, a lot of development would come in, which many of you will benefit from.

“Please let’s shun all side talks that you will regret given your land to the government because of money given to you today, instead think about what you will benefit and what your children would benefit from what the center wants to do on the land, because your unborn children would also benefit from it, he added

The Villagers who benefitted from the entitlement include: Asalu village, Ajibayo village, Abule-oba village, Oluwo-kenta village, Akiodu village, Obele village, Ijeun lemo village, Gbagura Eremaun village.

Others include: Ijeun Amosu village, Apena Erunwon village, Fonfon village, Ogbagba village, Ikereku Olokinta village and Kenya Otunba village.
