Ogun 2019: APC women protest alleged imposition of gubernatorial candidate

Some female members of All Progressives Congress across the three Senatorial Districts of Ogun State took to the Streets of Abeokuta on Friday to protest what they termed imposition of candidates on the party.

The women, with different placards stormed Governor’s Office in Oke-mosan insisted that the National Working Committee of APC should accept Abdul Kabir Akinlade as the gubernatorial candidate of the party for Ogun State instead of Dapo Abiodun

Some of the inscriptions on the placards read, ‘We want justice in Ogun APC’, ‘Give us Triple A’, ‘Oshiomhole, Osinbajo, we want justice in Ogun State’ and a ‘Minority cannot take charge over majority’, among others.

The Ogun State APC Women Leader, Mrs Sade Giwa on behalf of the protesters, spoke to journalists at Press Center, Abeokuta. She said, “October 2nd, we voted for Hon AbdulKabir Adekunle Akinlade during the primary election and he emerged as the winner. But the electoral committee announced Hon Dapo Abiodun as the winner, who was no where to be found during the election”.

“All women in Ogun State voted for Hon Kabir Akinlade during the election the Electoral committee should be warned, Adams Oshiomole, should be warned, He should release our mandate, we give him till Friday to announce the result or else, by Saturday, we will meet at Abuja”.

Ogun State Deputy Governor, Chief Mrs Yetunde Onanuga, later addressed the protesters. She said, “We have seen all the messages on the placards. I want you to remain steadfast in your demand, nothing negative will happen to the mandate you have given to Akinlade.

“The elders and party leaders are looking into the matter. I want to urge you to continue to be peaceful, don’t fight anybody.

The protesters latter converged at the Nigeria Union of Journalists secretariat, Oke Ilewo, where they spoke with some Journalists.

They condemned what they termed the “determined mission of some NWC members to trample upon the wish of the people of Ogun. ”

It could be recalled that some elders from Ogun West zone of the party  had on Tuesday also threatened to wield a big stick against National Assembly members from the zone for their failure to publicly speak against the rejection of the candidature of Akinlade as Ogun State APC gubernatorial candidate.
