Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has defeated 11 other aspirants to win the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential ticket for the 2019 general elections.

Atiku who was Nigeria’s vice president between 1999 and 2007 polled the highest number of votes at the PDP national convention which ended on Sunday Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

In the result announced by the Chairman of the PDP Convention Committee and Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa on Sunday morning, Atiku polled 1,532 with his nearest challenger, Governor Aminu Tambuwal polling 693 votes.

The other results are, Bukola Saraki , 317 votes; Jonah Jang, 19 votes; Datti Ahmed, 5 votes; David Mark , 35 votes; Tanimu Turaki, 65 votes; Sule Lamido, 96 votes; Attahiru Bafarawa, 48 votes; Ibrahim Dankwambo, 111 votes; Ahmed Makarfi, 74 votes and Rabiu Kwankwaso, 158 votes.

Atiku, a former officer of Nigeria Customs Service and multi-billionaire businessman will now square up against President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressives Congress who also emerged as the candidate of the party at the party’s national convention in Abuja, on Saturday.
