I will work to ensure you emerge Nigeria’s next President, Saraki promises Atiku

Senate President Bukola Saraki has promised to work with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who emerged winner of the presidential ticket of Peoples Democratic Party at the convention of the party concluded early Sunday in Port  Harcourt to ensure that the opposition party win the 2019 presidential election.

Saraki who also contested for the PDP ticket got the third highest votes cast by the delegates, according to results announced by by the Chairman of the PDP Convention Committee and Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Sunday morning.

He said Atiku polled 1,532 votes while Aminu Tambuwal polled 693 votes to place second.

Other results are, Bukola Saraki , 317 votes;  Jonah Jang,  19 votes; Datti Ahmed, 5 votes; David Mark , 35 votes; Tanimu Turaki, 65 votes; Sule Lamido, 96 votes; Attahiru Bafarawa, 48 votes; Ibrahim Dankwambo, 111 votes; Ahmed Makarfi, 74 votes and Rabiu Kwankwaso,  158 votes.

In his first reaction to the result, the Senate President, through his twitter handle said members of the PDP had shown that the interest of our party and the Nigerian people is more important than our individual interests.

He added, “We always knew from Day 1 that only one candidate would emerge. On behalf of all the aspirants, I want to assure Alhaji Abubakar that we will work with you to ensure that come 2019, you emerge as Nigeria’s next President.

“I want to thank Governor Okowa for planning and organizing this transparent, free and fair Presidential Primary and Convention.”
