A governorship aspirant in Ogun State All Progressive Congress, Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun has commended the National Working Committee of the party for its resistance of efforts to scuttle its plan to elect the party’s flagbearers for the 2019 general elections through direct primaries.
Prince Abiodun made this commendation after the Committee of the APC reaffirmed that the mode of selecting party flagbearers will be through direct primaries, thus scuttling the plan of some state leaders to install seemingly unpopular candidates through the consensus or indirect system.
Dapo who is also the Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission, who spoke while in Abeokuta North Local Government for consultation tour, expressed optimism that the direct primaries, which involves all card carrying members of the party to elect its candidates, will further enhance the confidence of party members in the leadership of the party and also provide them maximum sense of belonging in the party.
The oil magnate, who has been a strong advocate of the direct primary mode, said the National Working Committee has just saved the party from the imminent destruction at the general election because legions of party members have vowed to leave the party if they are not allowed to participate in electing those that will fly the party’s flag at the upcoming general elections.
He however, assured the national leaders of the party that the APC will remain a united and formidable party after the direct primaries and go on to win at the general elections because those who would lose at the direct primaries would know that they have lost fairly.
