Just in: NLC asks workers to embark on nationwide strike over minimum wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday evening directed its members to embark on an indefinite warning strike from Wednesday morning over failure of President Buhari administration to introduce a new minimum wage for workers.

The decision of the congress to embark on the indefinite nationwide strike followed expiration of the 14-day ultimatum given to the federal government.

NLC General Secretary, Peter Ozo-Eson, said in a statement that the congress that the strike will commence in the midnight of Wednesday.

“Representatives of organized labour, after due consultation and meetings, have therefore agreed that all unions and our Civil society allies should embark on a warning strike from midnight of Wednesday, 26th September, 2018.

“All affiliates and state councils are therefore expected to mobilize their members nationwide to ensure total compliance.

“The nationwide warning strike will remain in force until further directives are conveyed,” the release read,” the statement by Ozo-Eson read.
