A Catholic church priest, Rev. Fr. Paul Amenaghawon, on Sunday advised children to create new goals they would want to achieve in the new academic session that would soon start.
Amenaghawon, the Spiritual Director of Saint Albert the Great Major Seminary, Idowu Oforon in Ogun, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He spoke at the end of the Mass held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Gbaja, Lagos to mark his 40th birthday anniversary in Lagos.
“Children should focus on their academics, knowing fully, that the holiday period is gradually coming to an end and another academic year is about to begin.
“They should create new academic goals and also be ready to achieve greater opportunities by working toward achieving such goals during the session,” he said.
He said they would be able to achieve their set goals by improving on their reading abilities.
He said that they should also reduce the hours they would spend on watching films while in school.
” As the children resume schools after the long vacation, they must strive to improve on their reading abilities because the holiday period was more of play and less of reading,” he said.
The priest said this advice had become necessary because majority of the pupils would have cultivated the habit of watching home videos lasting long hours during the vacation.
NAN reports that most schools will soon resume for the new academic session.
He also urged Nigerians to be positive about nation’s democratic process saying it would bring them good dividends.
He said that no one should give room to any form of distraction.
“Nigerians in general should be positive in their thoughts toward one another, especially, at this time of electioneering.
“They should not focus on issues that will weigh down the country.
“Many things are happening around us daily which can distract us but we must remain strong and together even as the elections are drawing near,” he told NAN.
According to him, we must not overlook the fact that God has blessed us with many gifts and talents, we must explore these things and use them to build ourselves all the more.
The cleric appealed to all sections not to give in to anyone who would want to divert their attentions from achieving a successful election, but rather, remain focused in God.
“Let us create a Godly spirit that can keep us focused in the interest of our country rather than allowing selfish individuals to distract us,” he said.
