An auto mechanic, Ganiyu Azeez, on Monday appeared in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing parts of a car belonging to a customer valued at N37, 000.
Ganiyu of Adeshina Close, Abule-Egba, a Lagos suburb, is facing a charge of stealing.
The accused, according to the Prosecutor, Police Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, committed the offence on Aug. 19 at Biode Mechanic Workshop, Ojota Motor Park, Lagos.
He said the complainant, Shogbaloju Mukaila, also a mechanic, reported the case at Ogudu Police Station.
“Shogbaloju said at 4:00pm he was looking for his tools and as he got closer to the vehicle he saw the accused inside.
“He said the accused was pulling out the car radio and had already removed the car tape. And that as he was coming out of the vehicle,
he blocked him.
“He started shouting for people to come and they brought the accused out of the vehicle with the car radio in his hand.
“The complainant said that the car nozzle, water pump and ignition that were already removed and kept in the car before by him (the complainant) valued at N37, 000 were missing,” Ihiehie told the court.
The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 which prescribes three years imprisonment.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, who gave the ruling, adjourned the case until Oct. 24.
