The Adamawa chapter of Tijjaniyya Islamic group has disassociated itself from the dissident Haqiqah sect, describing the Haqiqah philosophy as un-Islamic.

The Haqiqah group, which had since gone underground, claimed to be part of Tijjaniyya group and was alleged to be on recruitment drive in Adamawa and Nasarawa states.

A statement signed by leader of Dariqatul Tijjaniyya in Adamawa, Sheikh Hamidu Jailani, urged Muslims to “disregard the poisonous philosophy and campaigns by the Haqiqah sect, which was bent on polluting the mindset of peace-loving Muslims.

“The Dariqatul Tijjaniyya in Adamawa is deeply concerned about the spate of flagrant un-Islamic practices being pioneered by a dissident group called Haqiqah that claims to be part of Tijjaniyya.

“All actions, inactions, preachings, activities and programmes of the dissident group are not only at variance with established Islamic doctrines as enshrined in the Holy Qur’an and the Hadith, but also run completely counter to the reasonable Ijma or consensus of opinion by present and past Muslim jurists all over the world.

“Thus, we wish to make it categorically clear that Dariqatul Tijjaniyya is dissociating itself from this group and all their activities and from any other group that moves away from Allah’s injunctions in the Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad’s interpretation in the Hadith.

“It is in this regard that we and any reasonable-minded Muslim considers the Haqiqah group as potential danger to established conventions of recognised Islamic practices.”

The Tijjaniyya group urged Muslim leaders, communities, clerics and scholars worldwide to continue to unite in countering such anti-Islamic groups, stressing that “the name Islam means peace and therefore, Muslims should by their actions and utterances promote peace at all times, regardless of who is or are involved in any case whatsoever.”

It also urged security agencies to be extra vigilant in taming the emerging excesses of such groups to safeguard the nation’s peace, security and stability.

It also condemned “sporadic killings taking place in different parts of the country” and appealed to Nigerians to engage in prayers for peace and stability in the country.

Meanwhile, the Spokesman of the police command in Adamawa, SP Othman Abubakar, said that the command had commenced investigation over activities of the Haqiqah group in the state.

Some of the alleged controversial doctrines of the Haqiqah sect included non-adherence to five daily prayers and the Ramadan fast as being observed by Muslims.
