Madumere: impeached

Mr. Eze Madumere, the Deputy Governor of Imo State has been impeached

Channels Television reports that Madumere was impeached on Monday by 19 out of the 27 member-assembly.

The television station quoted the Speaker of the House, Acho Ihim, as saying the impeachment followed the outcome of a report of a 7-man panel which was constituted by the Chief Judge of the state to investigate allegations of gross misconduct.

The allegation of gross misconduct levelled against the impeached deputy governor included absence without reasons for a period of three months and a failure to perform constitutional duties like attending state executive and state security council meetings.

Other sins of the deputy governor are failure to attend meetings with the Governor and other government functionaries and allegation that he did not reveal alleged felonious act he was involved in in the United States.

It will be recalled that the deputy governor has been having a running battle with Governor Rochas Okorocha over his intention to contest for the state’s governorship in 2019 as well as control of the structure of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Imo State.
