Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger on Thursday urged corps members to see themselves as veritable tools for unity, peace and mutual love among Nigerians.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bello made the call in Paiko, during the swearing-in of 2018 Batch ‘B’ members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Bello, who was represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Samaila, the Commissioner for Youth Development, described NYSC as an instrument of national union that had fostered peaceful co-existence among youths from different ethno-cultural divides.

He advised them to sensitise people towards positive change and nation building especially as the nation approaches another electioneering period.

Bello advised them to use their education and exposure to fight vices that had deprived the country of its deserved position among the comity of nations.

“Nigeria has many problems; there are diseases, illiteracy, pastoral crises, kidnapping and endemic corruption. These vices can only be tackled if we are united,’’ he said.

Earlier, Mrs. Theresa Arokoyo, NYSC Coordinator in Niger, had disclosed that 2,047 corps members, comprising 1,090 females and 957 males, had been documented for the orientation course.

She urged them to take advantage of the NYSC skills acquisition scheme to learn trades that would make them employers of labour after the service.
