A 20-year-old man, Mohammed Sanusi, who allegedly stole car parts, on Friday appeared in a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Sanusi, of no fixed address, is facing a charge of stealing, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 18, at 6.00 a.m., at African Road, Iponri, Lagos.

Osayande said the accused stole one kick starter, alternator, gear knob, selector, dash board and fuel tank valued at N600, 000.

She said the parts were stolen inside a parked truck where they were kept.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a seven-year jail term for offenders.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The chief magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, granted the accused N100,000 bail with one surety in like sum.

Adelaja said the surety must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until Sept. 3, for further hearing.
