Members of Lagos State Taxi Driver and Cab Operators Association (LSTDCOA) popularly called ‘Yellow Taxi’, have been tasked to ensure planting trees around their environment because of its immense values.
The ‘Yellow Taxi’ drivers and Cab operators were given the advice by their president/Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Tajudeen Adetoro, during this year’s tree planting exercise, held on Saturday, across Lagos state.
Alhaji Adetoro who says its association has been in fore front of environment development in the past 10 years, highlighted the importance of tree planting to life, which he described as life saving.
In his speech at the event Alhaji Adetoro said: “our association (LSTDCOA), has always been in the fore front of environment development in the state. We have actively participated in the tree planting campaign in this last ten years.
“It is symbolic and heartwarming that our association is honoured to host this year’s tree planting campaign for the transportation section in the state”.
Highlighting the importance of tree planting, the ‘Yellow Taxi boss said; “trees are important to life. Tree saves life. Our goods, clothes, and most household items come from tree. It is therefore important that we all plant trees”.
Alhaji Adetoro commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, for given his association the opportunity to fully partake in this year’s tree planting exercise, and for the good and developmental works he is doing in the state.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Tajudeen Adekoya, from Lagos State Parks and Gardens (LASPAK) who represented of the Commissioner of the Environment, Durosinmi Etti, commended members of the association for always aligning themselves with the programs of the state government, especially, in the area of tree planting.
Adekoya encouraged them to ensure that for a single tree cut, two or more are planted for replacement. While also informed them that before anyone of them cut any tree, permission must be obtained from his agency, LASPAK.
The Matron of the association, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Babajide, who also highlighted the importance of tree to human existence, charged members of the association to maintain any trees around them.
She equally, commended officers and members of the association for joining hands with the state government in all its programs, which she said are for the betterment of all residents of the state.
