A 45-year-old man, Amao Olusegun, on Tuesday appeared before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osun over alleged N823,000 fraud.

Olusegun is facing a two-count charge of fraud and conspiracy to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp. Lamidi Rasaki, told the court that the accused committed the offences in April within Osogbo Metropolis.

Rasaki said the accused obtained N823, 000 from Ganiyu Adeoti, to clear his Toyota Camry 2005 model from the ports, which he knew was false.

The prosecutor said that all efforts made by the complainant to get the accused to refund the money proved abortive.

“The case was reported to the police and the accused was arrested for questioning,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 419 and Section 383 (1) of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2003.

Mr John Amoo, the defence counsel, urged the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs Awodele Modupe, granted the accused bail of N300, 000 with two sureties in the like sum.

Modupe said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and show evidence of tax payment to Osun Government.

The case was adjourned until Aug.14 for mention.
