A 31-year-old tailor, Nuru Akanbi, on Friday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, charged with punching a man following a disagreement over money.

The accused, who allegedly assaulted a man, whose name was given as Mr Deji Balogun, is facing a two-count charge of assault and damage.

Akanbi, who resides at No. 24, Cinema St., Ajara-Dokoh in Badagry, committed the offences on July 1 at No. 36, Adarikoh St., Sango-Ile Dudu in Badagry, according to Police Prosecutor Akpan Ikem.

He told the court that the accused assaulted the complainant as a result of disagreement on money.

“The accused and the complainant argued about certain amount of money involving them.

“In a short while during the arguments, the accused started beating the complainant by throwing punches on his face and the accused also damaged a motorcycle belonging to the complainant,’’ he said.

The offences contravened Section 170 and 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Ruling on the accused’s bail application, Magistrate Jimoh Adefioye, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 and a surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Aug. 31 for hearing.
