A steward, Francis Adepoju, on Monday, appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State over alleged theft of a cow valued at N150,000.

The prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 3 at No 13, Akinlugba St., Badagry.

“The boy took the cow at mid-night, slaughtered it with the intention of sharing the meat among his friends.

“However, he was caught in the morning while trying to clean up the place where the cow was slaughtered,” the prosecutor said.

Ikem said that the cow belonged to the complainant, Mr Nuru Saheed, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.

According to him, the offence is contrary to Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 with a surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned till July 16, for continuation of hearing.
