An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, has fixed June 20 for commencement of trial of founder and CEO of Now Muzik Ltd, Efe Omorogbe, charged with forging the Copyright Society of Nigeria Ltd (COSON) letterhead.

Omorogbe, 47, was arraigned on April 5 alongside Joel Ajayi, 61, before the Magistrate, Mrs O. O. Oshin, by the Zone II Police Command Headquarters, Obalende.

Ajayi is listed on the COSON website as a member of Board of Directors and “the Managing Director, Gospel Choral Records Ltd.”

The duo is standing trial on a three-count charge of forgery, use of false document and breach of peace.

They pleaded not guilty and were granted bails.

At the resumed hearing of the case on Friday, the accused were present in court and the prosecutor, Insp. Steven Molo, told the court that the case was scheduled for mention.

He urged the court to adjourn the case for commencement of trial.

The magistrate adjourned the case until June 20 for trial to commence and told the prosecutor to ensure that his witnesses were present in court.

The police prosecutor had told the court that Omorogbe, Ajayi and others still at large, committed the offences on Dec. 7, 2017 at No. 41, Oluwaleyimu St., Ikeja, Lagos.

He said the accused allegedly forged COSON’s letterhead “with intent that it may be acted upon or used as genuine…to the prejudice of COSON”.

“The accused also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by storming the meeting venue of Chief Tony Okoroji with thugs and disrupted the proceedings.”

The offences contravened Sections 168 (d), 363 and 376 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
