The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bayelsa says it has started distributing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to owners across communities in the state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr Cyril Omorogbe, who resumed office three weeks ago, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Yenagoa, noting that the new PVCs were over 65,000.
Omorogbe explained that the new PVCs were for those who registered in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) between April 2017 and December 2017.
He said the cards also included the ones for those who requested for transfer.
He explained that “for those who registered in 2011, we have about 23,000 unclaimed cards; we, therefore call on people who registered then to go to their various local government area centres and collect their PVCs.
“The PVCs are available in different centres in the communities because we want to make it easier for people to claim their cards.
“The distribution is part of efforts to ensure that everybody that registered gets the PVC before the 2019 general elections.
“The commission has created awareness in the communities for people to come out and collect their PVCs. Those who are yet to register should also take advantage of the on-going registration and register.”
