A 35-year-old auto mechanic, Saka Oluwale, who allegedly defrauded his customer of N150, 000, was on Wednesday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Oluwale, who resides at Bariga area of Lagos, is facing a charge of fraud.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 29, 2017, at Marwa Waterside, Lekki, Lagos.

He said that the accused obtained the sum from the complainant, Mr Joseph Idray, and fraudulently sold another customer’s Mitsubishi Space Wagon to him.

“The car was given to the accused by one of his customers for repair; instead of repairing it; he sold it to the complainant.

“When the car was recovered, the accused could not refund the money to the complainant,” he said.

The offence contravened Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs M. O. Ope-Agbe, granted him bail in the sum of N150, 000 with one surety in like sum.

She said that the surety must be gainfully employed and should swear to an affidavit of means.

The case was adjourned until May 28 for mention.
