Obafemi Awolowo University

A Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Olugbenga Akintola Foundation, on Monday donated N18 million worth of antibiotics vials to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Health Centre, Ile-Ife.

The Executive Director of the foundation, Mr Gbenga Akintola, while presenting the drugs to the management of the health centre, said the antibiotics were for treatment of blood, abdomen and lung infection.

Akintola, who noted the foundation had been donating drugs in the last six years to hospitals across the state, said the donation was to assist the institution in providing good healthcare to the people.

He also said the antibiotics would assist the health centre in providing quality services in the treatment of chronic infections.

Akintola said since government alone could not provide the needed quality health devices, the foundation would continue to partner with institutions in providing quality healthcare delivery.

In his remarks, Dr Adedayo Irinoye, the Director of the health centre , said the management of the institution was grateful for the donation.

Irinoye said the antibiotics, which he described as very portent, would assist in saving lives at the centre.

Also speaking, Dr Olugenga Ajila, the Deputy Vice-Chancllor (Administration) of the university, said the antibiotics would assist the centre in providing quality healthcare.

Ajila, who noted that subvention from the institution was no longer regular, said the antibiotics would go a long way in assisting patients.

Also speaking, Prof. Kayode Ijaduola, the Provost of College of Health Sciences, commended the foundation for the donation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 2,000 packs of the antibiotics called Tozacin were donated to the centre by the foundation.
