The commissioner for police,ogun state command CP Ahmed Iliyasu has highlighted the reason that police need to be more equipped to fight crime and criminality in the state and the country entirely.
The CP made this statement during a lecture titled “Security Orientation and Induction Course” organised by the Ogun state Police Community Relations Committee in Abeokuta said the police needs new technics in other to police the people’s lives and properties.
You cannot police a peple who to donot accept you,therefore it is very neccesary and may be mandatory for anyone who is towering yhe highway of successful landmark policing to engage the people in the participatory policing,pcrc was known to be a conglomerate of men and women of potential with visions and mission,buy were only handicapped by low drive.
On this course “i resolved within myself that,though painstaking,i will do all possible to engage the peoples’ policing principle,through studies and practical i have come to term that ‘you cannot police a people who do not accept you’.
“i discovered that the pcrc to be a conglomerate of men and women of potential with vision and mission but were only handicapped by the low drive.on this i saw a window opportunity,then and there i was sure that if i can only give my unwavering support and commitment as a drive motivation to the untapped potential within the pcrc,it will not take time before the world celebrates our style of policing.
“Some people out there perceived the pcrc as a people contracted by the police to help sell our image,although everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion,but the onus lies on us to educates and sensitize the people especially the new volunteers that have just decided to join the pcrc that,supporting the police is your civic responsibility.
The vice chairman of PCRC, DR S.K Popoola while offering his
lecture on the Essence of PCRC to the society said crime has graduated, so new techniques are needed to be applied to fight crime in the society,therefore the police needs tye community to work with in order to secure th people because they cannot be everywhere.
He said, crime is not as it is before, that period of stealing goats and fowls had passed away, they have graduated and upgraded, so new
and very good techniques are needed to tackle them.
The PCRC tasks were many, among them is to partner with the police in the areas of credible information gathering and positively project the
image of police to the public.
Dr Popoola stated that , the police and citizens are should have a cooperate police services, jointly responsibility for reducing crime and improving the quality of life in local neighborhood.
He stressed that , PCRC should not be political, religious, tribal and status based, but everyone must be seen to be important in gathering and passing information across to the police as it meant to complement Nigeria Police Force in discharge of its core mandate.
In his welcome address delivery, the state chairman of PCRC, Alhaji
Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, commended Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the state
governor “for his unwavering commitment to ensure that citizens of this state goes about their normal duties unmolested. His determined policy of administration on security has made the state to be centre of attraction to business within and outside the country. Our governor has created the enabling environment for PCRC to succeed in this state.”
Also the chairman of Harmony Community Development Association while inaugurating the Ibara Police Unit in Ibara said “moral and financial commitment alongside other personal sacrifices to giving our various communities a peaceful environment will forever be in alphabets of gold .
The success of an efficient and effective policing is the best achieved through collective efforts.
Nigeria police is one entityin terms of structure and command,it is therefore necessary and important to allow the best positioned unit or post to handle cases closer to it order to enhance and achieve the best results.
